I'm back!

10:49 AM

Wow everyone! It feels like forever since I've sat down and written a post!

Actually it has been. Well, I'm back from my surgery and I'm doing well. What I had was a paniculectomy. I know...huge ass word. Basically because I've lost quite a bit of weight I had a tremendous amount of tissue hanging down on my belly ( called a panus or apron) I had that removed. They removed 58 lbs of tissue and skin and I can now see my thighs...which I haven't been able to do in a lot of years. They also had to repair a fairly bad hernia which I didn't know that I had, so my stomach is still a bit swollen. But for the most part my stomach is flat...or rather I don't have a belly anymore!

But...the surgery was 2 1/2 hours long, I lost a tremendous amount of blood and fluid and had to be given 2 units of blood in surgery. I have an incision that runs from the side of one hip to the side of the other hip. Not too mention the two drains. One on each side hanging down.

I jokingly told everyone that I went to the hospital and they cut off my stomach, but they sent me home with testicles ;) Look at this picture and you'll understand why I called them that. They also hang down to about my knees lol.

I got out of the hospital this past Tuesday (just shy of a week after I left) and I've been doing a lot of sleeping and trying to read and do the minimal amount of what I needed to to get caught up!

I still have a ways to go in the weight loss battle, but not having this impediment will help tremendously. Now everyone is asking what I'm going to get done next! I'm not ready to think about that just yet though lol.

Every year we lose more people to AIDS. It hasn't disappeared and it's not going away anytime soon. I urge you to seek out and support your local AIDS Organizations. Encourage everyone you know to practice safe sex and to get tested once a year. Even if you don't think you are at risk, get tested. I didn't think I was at risk either, and I almost died before I was diagnosed.
